Cleaning Secrets ?
Yes ! There are secrets to cleaning, and I'm here to blow the lid off-so to speak.
I think of myself as a 'Jane of all trades" I've taught Sunday School, worked in restaurants, Managed my husbands business, raised kids, chased grand-kids written poetry-and had one poem published, We are in the process of building our own home, and yes WE are actually building it ourselves. And I ran my own cleaning service for a few years, and yes there ARE actual secrets.. Some of the things here are simply lessons learned along the way, others will be some of the trade secrets.. Some things are so simple, you might be tempted to brush them off.. try them first, they really work.
So here we go..
#1. Put a Medium size trash container in each room of your house.. You expected something else? Seems silly and simple and you say, of course everyone has a trash bin in the bathroom or office or where ever, right ? Yes, But there small... they get stuffed under a desk or in a corner then they get full from a couple of pieces of paper, and before you know it candy wrappers or soda cans or whatever piles up and YOU end up cleaning up after everyone. So get a medium size one , put a medium size bag in it not a large one from the kitchen it helps.
#2. Make everyone responsible for there own dinner dishes.. perhaps you've tried without success here's some simple things that work.. If you use a dishwasher open the door before you sit down to dinner, make sure it's empty the closed door seems to give an excuse for sitting the dish on the counter.. If you wash in the sink simply fill the sink with Hot Soapy water before you sit down to dinner when someone is finished remind them to wash there own dishes. It works..
#3. Have Adult space in your home, it really is O.K. It seems that the children have completly taken over the home ! Children are a part of the ADULTS HOME ! It's not there house it's YOURS..
#4. Designate quiet toys for the living room, not all there things. Each child can have there own basket or whatever for a container with there living room items and when there through with them put them back in the basket.
#5. Have a clear out.. One saturday or whenever, take a box and look around, fill the box with all the stuff you never use that's just collecting dust and donate it to a good charity. The house looks better and your good karma level goes up.
Now for some trade secrets.. Stop I'll say it again STOP cleaning one room at a time..
You don't clean one room at a time, You do one JOB at a time through the whole house. This is the biggest secret.. It's how cleaning services can clean so quickly. Here's the order it goes in..
First take a large trash bag walk through each room emptying the medium trash bins, and filling the bag with anything that needs to go out. Don't do anything else ! Second take your glass cleaner go into each room and clean all the glass objects. Begin on one side of the room and in an orderly way go around the room, NOT back and forth between objects. Third, Do the same thing with your wood cleaner, in the same way. Now clean the tub and sinks, Last sweep and vacuum, The whole house is done and IF you do ONE JOB at a time through the house without stopping to do something else you will be amazed at how quickly and thoroughly your house will be cleaned. Cleaning in this manner we were able to have two people cleaning nine or ten homes a day. The first time you do this it will take longer thereafter every time you do it the time shortens until you should be able to do everything in ONE hour or less.. Give it a try it truly WORKS..

I've recently started making sure the dishwasher is ready to be used, before a meal, and it does make a big difference. I am also finding that if the food is stick, run a sink of hot water before the meal, so everyone can drop their plate in it to soak for a few minutes, then I load them all into the dishwasher. This saves so much time over rinsing them all, and uses less water.
